3 Horizons

From Three Horizons, The Patterning of Hope, by Bill Sharpe

  • Horizon 1: The status quo. The current, dominant business or system, which should be maintained and improved.
  • Horizon 2: The transition zone. The contested space where innovations are tested and nurtured to eventually replace the status quo system.
  • Horizon 3: Emerging future. The envisioned, transformative future state, built on the foundation of the innovations from Horizon 2. Sensed via weak signals.

Transformative plot twists begin to reveal themselves as weak signals in horizon 3, and develop in horizon 2.
